Doug and Marybeth Benz hosted the meeting. Gave detailed information on how to clean, prepare and cook speckled trout.
Chefs Doug and Marybeth served club members FISH TACOS, a blackened fish, Napa cabbage, seasoned with lemon and salt with a spicy yogurt sauce on a corn tortilla.
Captain Lee is no stranger to our club. Besides being a very successful charter captain he brings a wealth of experience and information on current fishing conditions to update the club meMyers. Some changes to his charter service, like sporting a new 30ft twin engine center counsel boat that can focus more on off shore fishing, what we can expect to catch. He can now easily accommodate up to 6 people. His contact info is on our sponsors page.
Our big winner for the Diana Rod & Reel combo was Don Yuska, Mike Seigel was also a big winner of a free fishing charter on TOP GUN with Capt Lee as well as the 50/50 drawing which was won by Mike Seigel.

Our guest speaker for this month’s meeting was NC Wildlife Officer David Midyette and his assistant. The officers were very informative on the rules & regulations pertaining to game fish limits, sizes and possession in our local waters. Our local waters consist of “Inland, Coastal and Joint waters” This tends to get very confusing as each have their own regulations and can have different enforcement agencies that have jurisdiction over the same waterways. One can be in “Inland Waterways” one minute and the in “Coastal Waterways” the next. To make sure you are doing everything legally, you need to know what the rules are in all waterways. If in doubt, practice catch and release! It is currently legal to keep trout caught in our harbor and NW Creek but that can always change.
CCA Banquet: The CCA banquet is being held on March 6th at the Convention Center in New Bern. The FCFH voted on purchasing a 4 Top Table, seats were raffled off to 4 lucky members. Each winner will now only pay half the cost as the club will pick up the other half. Tickets are still available for this event at $90 per person and $150 per couple.
SPECIAL RAFFLE: Tickets were sold for DIAWA ultra light rod & reel combo and a tackle box of lures. (A starter kit of everything you will need to fish our local waters). Tickets will also be sold at the March meeting with the drawing to be held at the end of the March meeting. $5/ticket for a $200 value. This combo will continued to be offered from member Don Willis at Custom Marine Fabricators in James City.
Our monthly 50/50 raffle was won by club member Dan Dudley - Congratulations
The purchase of tee shirts was discussed. Anyone wanting to buy a tee shirt with the club logo needs to let Harvey PYE know with the size of the shirt.
George Maravelas was our guest speaker for the night, who gave a great presentation on the Care, Repair and Refurbishing of old fishing lures. Lures cost a lot these days and George showed us how to save money.
